The Federation for Uganda Medical Interns (FUMI) is an independent, legally registered Non-Profit Organisation representing medical interns in Uganda. FUMI is registered as a company limited by guarantee under the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB). The federation brings together intern doctors, nurses, midwives, dental surgeons, and pharmacists deployed by the Ministry of Health of Uganda across legally recognised internship centres throughout the country.
Uganda’s doctor-to-patient ratio (1:24,000) is still far below the WHO-recommended ratio of 1:1,000, with very low staffing levels at public hospitals for all cadres, leaving medical interns to cover over 60% of the workload in these hospitals.
Despite the burden, medical interns have had to demonstrate to be deployed, sat home for over a year without deployment, and fought over low payments in the past decade.
FUMI exists to lead the objective, fact-driven advocacy for the betterment of the welfare, rights and general working conditions of medical interns.

OUR MISSION
To advocate for the welfare and interests of medical interns throughout their working period, and to provide programs that support socio-economic welfare and professional interests of medical interns in Uganda.
| 1. To bring together and unite all medical interns in Uganda irrespective of their primary medical disciplines. |
| 2. To advocate for the better welfare of medical interns in Uganda. |
| 3. To provide a platform and link between medical interns, the public, government agencies and other relevant stakeholders. |
| 4. To provide a forum for medical interns to contribute and discuss towards the development of policies that directly or indirectly affect health and their training. |
| 5. To empower medical interns with non-medical skills; financial literacy, career development, and other soft skills through workshops and related arrangements. |
| General Assembly (GA) | Highest decision-making body. Meets at least every 3 months. All members may attend; only full members vote. |

| Executive Board (EB) | Elected annually. Manages day-to-day operations. Comprises President, VP, SG, Treasurer, Chairs, Director of Publications, cadre reps. |
| National Internship Committee (NIC) | Supervisory and advisory body comprising the EB, all site leaders, and special interest group reps. |
| Board of Trustees | Advisory body. Members serve up to 4 years. Elects 2 members to the Ethics & Disciplinary Committee annually. |
